More Than Entertainment

A large flat stone in shallow water, marked with a radiating star-shaped water-paint sigil around a lotus flower. Brushes rest to the left; a small glowing bell and a matching sigil card sit to the right.

WIP Teaser for an upcoming post.

The second most common way someone politely says “no” to trying Serenity Sketch: “No thanks, I’m not a gamer.” This post is a companion to Liberate to Create, for that other pushback.

Here’s what I’ll be writing about:

  • Gris, Her Story, and Pentiment: three video games that are Art. You don’t need to be a Gamer to enjoy them. They have no score, you wouldn’t describe them principally as “fun” or “exciting” or “action”. But they’ve stuck with me longer than most things I’d call “art.”
  • Outer Wilds gets a brief mention too, but it’s already got its own post
  • Why Serenity Sketch is cut from the same cloth: a game that doesn’t entertain, but still touches.
